The Tubes – Talk To Ya Later (Album Mix)
A fantastic pop rock track that usually gets pushed to the back of the 80′s spectrum of awesomeness, but I don’t think I’d call it a Lost Gem as it’s certainly of top hit for The Tubes.
Both produced and co-written by David Foster, “Talk To Ya Later” has all the appeal of a fast paced surf groove, classic rock and roll track, sing along pop, and those early 80′s synths that are definitely new wave!
For me the most interesting “hook” of this tune is the melodic surprise in the bridge just before the chorus… “She won’t even miss me when she’s gone.. That’s ok with me I’ll cry later on” :)
This is the album mix which features the fun little spoken word intro, as well as the extended ending that was all but chopped off of the single edit.
I can only imagine a tune like this being a real popular jam of 1981-’82, blasting out the windows of Camaro’s and Thunderbird’s everywhere!!

It was absolutely a staple for cruising around! It was also a song that got played at every single high school dance! As soon as you heard the guy talking about the Completion Backward Principle you knew the funky guitars were about to start.
This is the first time your blog has introduced me to a song I didn’t previously know that I really, really liked!
