Michael McDonald – (I Hang) On Your Every Word
This is one I missed myself on the first go round, and I was fortunate enough to pick up the album that this was pulled off of at a huge record sale when a radio station was getting rid of all it’s vinyl. (Oh what a glorious day that was :)
Co-written with his wife Amy Holland, this track is a stand-out from Michael McDonald’s 1987 LP “No Lookin’ Back”. It’s a synth driven cut, all built around that brilliant keyboard hook that serves as the foundation of the track. And if you have yourself a good sound system, it really crunches!! Also gotta dig the melody changes, verse-bridge-chorus..
I’m also fond of this concept “I hang on your every word”… Weren’t you ever just into someone so much that you looked forward to talking with them, that their words bared weight, and you’d cling to anything that moved beyond idle chit chat :)
