Men At Work – Overkill

If there was ever a bonafide hit single from Men At Work that I could call The 80′s Man’s favorite, I think I would go with this one!

The second single off the bands fantastic Cargo record, “Overkill” would reach #3 on the charts and forever be one of their all-time greatest hits.

The instant recognition for this one with me is the video, once again from an era in time when videos were still fairly new, yet the imagery quality was increasing. For this particular video, it’s fairly simplistic.. shot outdoors at night time and in the early morning hours. The visual is superb, the lighting is perfect, the colors vibrant. The concept is spot on for the of tone the song, who’s sound is rich in varying layers. A seamless crosshatch between dark and bright artistic washes.

If you enjoyed this post, please send it to a Men At Work fan you know. Or simply an 80′s fan. I’m sure they’ll enjoy it. Thanks kids!

I love the acoustic version that Colin Hay did later on his Man @ Work album even better.

@OldSchool – I’m aware of that version yes, I like to refer to it as the “abstinent version” i.e NO SAX! Therefore I must favor the original as the preference :)
