I tend to regard Madonna’s Like A Prayer album as a bookend of sorts. Her last full length album of the 80′s and kind of a step in a new direction (a direction which I guess is inevitable with the change in times and the evolution of an artist). The first two albums were the cuppy-doll image we’d come to love. The third was a hybrid between the former and a more serious tone. Here we have her embarking on a new sound, a sound that would define the soon to be early 90′s pop dance that she would reign as queen (the whole Vogue era of Madonna would be huge!)
One of the best precursors to this new sound from Like A Prayer was this single, “Express Yourself” focusing it’s all empowering message of say what you want, say why you want it, or otherwise you are not going to get it. Once again clear communication is key and that’s what’s expressed here. (And that works both ways ladies and gentlemen :)
Here we have what’s called the “Non-Stop Express Mix” from the 12″ single.
