Jackson Browne – Somebody’s Baby

I had read somewhere on the internet that the 80′s classic film Fast Times At Ridgemont High turns 30 this week!

This flick most definitely goes down as one of my favorite “teen movies” of the 80′s. This Amy Heckerling/Cameron Crowe creation depicts the early arcade era of high school exploits in a raunchy way. It pre-dates the whole Brat Pack era of John Hughes type movies and is much more dirty, in comedy and obviously physicality.

Probably the biggest track released as a single from the double-record soundtrack was Jackson Browne’s ode to Jennifer Jason Leigh’s character.. “Somebody’s Baby” was essentially her theme song, used in three separate scenes.

My favorite of those, and probably the most hilarious, is the one that takes place in the pool house… those of you who areĀ  familiar with the film don’t need me to explain the details leading up to this sequence.. but the use of this track during that scene and the instrumental drop-out after the line “I’m just gonna walk up to her, I’m gonna talk to her tonight……” Hysterical! If you haven’t seen this classic piece of cinema in a while, you really have to take the time :)

If you’ve enjoyed this post, than I kindly ask you to share it. The only way my posts reach a broader audience is if you, The 80′s Kids, take 10 seconds to pass this post along through your chosen method of socialization.

I never get tired of listening to this song. I also liked Jackson’s “Boulevard” from a couple years earlier. Good stuff.
