Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Want To Have Fun (Extended Version)

It’s my understanding that for a time in the 1980′s, if you were a teeny bopper you either fell into one or two categories… you were either a Madonna person or a Cyndi Lauper person. Given the context of the time, as both artists were up and coming, I can understand how their may have been a battle over who was queen of pop.

It can also be easy to understand how all the little girls of the world would flock towards an anthem of “just wanting to have fun” sung by a character who could throw on any old garage sale clothes and make them look cool.

This version of the 80′s hit is the rare “extended remix version” from the 12” single. It’s really got a lot going for it, to the point that I can’t even listen to the regular single version quite the same way as it’s…. well, just not as fun!

So were you/are you a Madonna person, or a Cyndi Lauper person?

Ladies if you’ve enjoyed this post, please pass it along to your girlfriends. You know you’ve all had a moment when you were joyfully singing this one! If you send them this post, they have a chance to rock it out again!

This makes me miss Capt Lou. I can’t say I agree with your assessment that there were mutually exclusive contingents of people loyal to Madonna or Cyndi Lauper. I have never encountered a situation in which I was asked to take sides.

Yeah, Capt. Lou… forgot to give him a shout out in this post. I remember watching the video as a kid and wondering why the hell this wrestling guy (who was playing her father I guess) was putting up with all this noise from his daughter, haha

I’ve seen interview footage from that era (’84) where it was discussed of people taking sides. It may have only lasted that one year or so. Kind of like (and dare I use the example, that little window of time when it was Britney Spears vs. Christina Aguilera). No two artists are truly the same, and I myself couldn’t pick between Madonna or Cyndi Lauper.

I’m pretty sure I was born in the wrong decade but stuff like this makes it bearable.

@Elton Mleczynski Thanks so much for joining us! Couldn’t agree with you more… I’m constantly told I was born in the wrong decade, and I consider that a badge of honor! (should have been born in the 60′s or 70′s to be teens/20′s in the 80′s:)

Thanks for listening, as well as the thoughtful shout-out’s on your own blog & twitter. I’m glad that this song could provide a good “boost” for you as it had in the past :)
