A decade before “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” was considered the ultimate Aerosmith power-ballad, “Angel” wore the crown of that distinction. And she wore it proud!
Putting a spotlight on the track from the bands so-called comeback record Permanent Vacation, would be one of the biggest sources of friction with the band. To say they hated this track is an understatement, they loathed it! Lead singer Steven Tyler once mentioned that the first time he heard “Angel” it made him cry, but after having played it dozens of times, the song made him want to puke! Other band members would site that the tune was too wussy for them. Whether or not the band has warmed up to this one over the years may depend on the day, but as far as I know Aerosmith has ceased from performing this one in concert for quite some time.
But no matter the case, one thing is for sure.. “Angel” is a genuine Greatest Hit in the bands catalog. The lyrical depth of sadness is just so powerful, so precise. Great batch of lyrics that are delivered simply. And clearly written from the heart.
While I don’t typically go for such lush ballads from the rockers, I however have always LOVED this track! It has a special sentiment to it that means something to me. Like many songs it requires a certain place and time to truly reflect on it. Maybe today is just one of those days!

A wonderful choice that I must admit, I didn’t know was from the 80′s. It is often very eye-opening to me the songs that we don’t usually associate with the decade of synthesizers and big hair, also had rock like this. And yeah it’s not really one of their harder tracks, it is one that is easy to get behind and holds a special place to me as well.
As a rocker girl, it bums me out how bands like Aerosmith and Guns and Roses and Van Halen get these super mega-hits off songs that basically sound nothing like the rest of their music. Don’t Want To Miss A Thing is hands down, far and away Aerosmith’s best selling single and they DIDN’T EVEN WRITE IT! At least this one is theirs (and co-writer Desmond Child– who also helped them out on a few other tracks including Crazy and Dude Looks Like a Lady)
